With the ongoing situation and uncertainty around flights and airports, coupled with the gap in travel and flights due to the reduction in holidays during the pandemic it is natural to feel a bit worried around flights as holiday makers plan to return to the sky for their annual summer holiday.
However, a fear of flying can run a bit deeper than just a general worry, fear of flying is also known as aviophobia, with so many people feeling anxious around flights it is helpful to know that you are not alone, it is recorded that 25% of the population suffer a fear of flying, much like any worry or phobia some may suffer more than others.
Mild aviophobia can cause anxiety and discomfort prior to and during the flight, wherein a more extreme case could lead to physical reaction such as palpitations, excessive sweating, increased heart rate or avoiding flying altogether.

With practice, patience and a little perseverance you can overcome your fear of flying, you may not exactly ever enjoy the thought/experience of flying but by using some therapeutic techniques and exploring the negative thoughts and feelings that contribute to the fear can be helpful in helping you manage it.
Here are some fear of flying tips to help soothe you:

Use mindful relaxation techniques to help your body really relax, you can source these through an app such as Balance or CALM.

Choose your seat prior to booking, knowing where you are sitting can be reassuring.

Avoid caffeine products or alcohol the night before as these may exacerbate anxiety, instead drink water or a calming tea to settle the nerves.

Distraction is key, prepare some distractions methods such as a Netflix show or book, distracting the mind will keep it busy and occupied.

Plan and prepare all your documentation and journey the evening before, try to make the day of flight as pleasant as possible, lean on your travel buddy for comfort and reassurance if you feel overwhelmed.
