FDCI India Couture Week 2022: JJ Valaya celebrates 30 years in fashion with a spectacular showcase

You know that it is India Couture Week when you finally see a magnificent set design and spectacular ensembles being showcased by the designers on the ramp. While we missed a hint of that spark and brilliance on the first two days of India Couture Week, designer JJ Valaya made sure that we closely get to witness the true meaning of grandeur and opulence with his new collection Alma.

The designer, who celebrated his 30 years in fashion with this brilliant showcase, presented awe-inspiring couture pieces by picking up subtle nuances from his past collection of three decades.

The set was one of the best at India Couture Week so far. It was done in collaboration with Theme Weavers Designs which is India's finest wedding planners and wedding event designers, with branches in the royal cities of Jodhpur and London.

The models sauntered down the ramp to live music with musical instruments like Sitar and Sarangi leaving the audience spellbound.

Valaya's collection had his signature chevron print seen on lehengas and saris. A black and white chevron print sari with a sequined chevron jacket made for a sight to behold.

The Valaya man walked nonchalantly on the runway in belted bandhgalas and shawl adding to the charisma.

"Every year, for the past 30 years, my inspirational journeys start somewhere deep in my soul and are triggered by something visual that was arresting …this is where I start my research, dwelling on the visual treasures I chance upon either in books or through travel. It would be accurate to state that my intrigue for global cultures, (especially the ones connected with the Spice and Silk routes in one way or another) is my perennial love", mentioned JJ Valaya in the press note.

"The history of this season’s inspiration, Spain, goes back to over a million years back and this is not the first time that I’ve been inspired by this magical country. But how can one fully and creatively explore any things that has such a vibrant past in just one collection! Therefore, I present to you ALMA (Meaning ‘Soul’ in Spanish), my all- new collection for the Couture seasons of 2022-23," he added.
