FC Edinburgh enjoy excellent League One start as they stun Kelty Hearts on flag day

Alan Maybury says FC Edinburgh could have won their League One opener by more after a fantastic 2-0 win over Kelty Hearts.

The New Central Park club won the fourth tier at a canter last year as Edinburgh came through the play-offs. It was the latter though who secured a fantastic start to life in a new division, John Robertson putting Edinburgh into a half-time lead. Ouzy See then rose from the bench to score in the dying embers and secure three points.

It was flag day for the SPFL League Two champions but that day was quickly spoiled by their visitors from the capital. Maybury told club media: "We knew that when the fixtures came out, this was going to be difficult. We were going to the team who won our league last year by quite a distance. We came here to compete and we did that. I thought we could have scored a couple more.

"We knew that we had to weather a storm. It was just decision making and defensively we put our bodies on the line.

"We should have been out of sight. We are still trying to find out feet with what we want to be. I know what I want us to be.

"We spoke about not overplaying but we probably went too long, too early. But when we put in an extra pass, we looked good."
