FC Barcelona's Lamine Yamal Reconsiders Playing In Euros And Olympics

Joao Felix barcelona football player

FC Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has expressed his reservations about potentially participating in both the Euros and Olympics this summer. Initially open to the idea of playing in both major tournaments, the 16-year-old has now reconsidered, deeming it 'not sensible' due to concerns about managing his workload and avoiding burnout.

In a recent interview, Lamine acknowledged the importance of pacing himself and not overburdening his young career with excessive playing time. Despite his enthusiasm for representing Spain, he now believes that focusing on one tournament would be more beneficial for his development.

The cautionary tale of his teammate Pedri, who struggled with injuries after featuring in both competitions in his breakout season, serves as a reminder of the potential risks of overexertion for young players.

Barcelona's Sporting Director has also hinted at a possible restriction on players participating in both the Euros and Olympics, emphasizing the need to prioritize the well-being of the club's talents.

While Lamine and his fellow La Masia graduate Pau Cubarsi were considered potential candidates for the Spanish national team at the Olympics, it now appears that they may not be making the trip to Paris after all.
