FC Barcelona is reportedly preparing to offer Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot a three-year contract as he nears the end of his current deal with the Italian club. Rabiot, who will become a free agent on June 30, has not yet reached an agreement with Juventus for an extension.
The French midfielder, who was close to joining Barcelona five years ago from Paris Saint-Germain, opted to sign with Juventus instead. Now, at 29 years old, Rabiot is still performing at a high level and is expected to be part of the French national team for Euro 2024 in Germany.
Barcelona is said to be preparing a three-season offer for Rabiot, with the possibility of extending for an additional year. However, Barcelona is not the only club interested in acquiring Rabiot's services. Inter Milan, Newcastle United, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich are also reportedly keen on signing him.
Midfield depth is a priority for Barcelona, with head coach Xavi Hernandez utilizing multiple midfielders in his lineup. Rabiot's potential arrival on a free transfer reflects Barcelona's current financial situation, where they are looking to secure top talents without significant financial outlay.
Last summer, Xavi successfully convinced Ilkay Gundogan to join Barcelona from Manchester City, showcasing the club's ability to attract top players despite financial constraints.
