FC Barcelona is currently in negotiations with Nike for a new 'mega-contract' that could potentially be valued at up to $1.28 billion (€1.2 billion). The talks, reported by MARCA from anonymous sources, are said to be in advanced stages.
The relationship between FC Barcelona and Nike dates back to 1998, but recent disagreements led to attempts to cancel the existing contract, which was renewed in 2018. President Joan Laporta revealed in a podcast that Barca sought to terminate the contract due to what they perceived as breaches by Nike.
Despite legal disputes, a recent court ruling favored Nike, obliging FC Barcelona to honor the contract until at least 2028. However, Nike has reportedly improved its offer to include a signing-on fee of $106.7 million (€100 million) and annual payments of $128 million (€120 million) for 10 years.
This revised deal, if finalized, would amount to a total of $1.28 billion (€1.2 billion) in fixed payments. Additionally, the agreement is said to include bonuses for meeting certain objectives and the removal of penalties for poor performance.
Such a lucrative contract could significantly benefit FC Barcelona in terms of Financial Fair Play compliance and potentially provide resources for future transfers. The negotiations between the club and Nike are seen as crucial for Barcelona's financial stability and competitiveness in the football market.
