The FBI is actively investigating the New Orleans crowd attack incident to determine if anyone collaborated with the suspect in placing potential improvised explosive devices (IEDs) around the French Quarter. Sources familiar with the investigation revealed that these devices were discovered near the site of the attack, in addition to those found in the suspect's pickup truck.
During a news conference on Wednesday, the FBI disclosed that they do not believe the suspect acted alone, as weapons and possible IEDs were recovered from the vehicle. Bomb technicians are currently assessing the viability of the devices found in the French Quarter and working to render them safe. FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Alethea Duncan, confirmed that two IEDs have been located and neutralized.
Law enforcement officers have been conducting thorough searches in the historic area of New Orleans following the early morning attack. Additionally, the FBI is carrying out search operations at two locations in Texas in connection with the investigation. The suspect, identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar from Texas, is at the center of the ongoing probe.
