FBI Identifies Thomas Matthew Crooks As Trump Assassination Attempt Suspect

Scenes outside of the FBI building in Washington

The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old man from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the individual responsible for the attempted assassination of former President Trump at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred during a rally where Crooks shot Trump from a rooftop perch approximately 130 yards away, hitting the upper part of Trump's right ear while he was addressing rally attendees.

Tragically, one attendee was killed, and two others were injured during the attack. Crooks was subsequently shot dead at the scene. The victims have not yet been publicly identified, and the FBI has confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Crooks, a recent graduate of Bethel Park High School, was described as a high-achieving student who received recognition for his academic accomplishments. Despite his young age, he had no prior criminal record or financial issues.

Records indicate that Crooks was a registered Republican but had only participated in one state election due to his age. Additionally, he had made a donation to a political action committee supporting Democratic candidates, highlighting a potential divergence from his party affiliation.

The FBI has pledged to continue its investigation into Crooks and gather any additional information relevant to the case. The community remains shocked by the events that transpired and awaits further updates on the investigation.
