FBI hunts 'Pink Lady Bandit' after string of bank robberies in US

The FBI is offering a £8,000 ($10,000) reward for information leading to the 'Pink Lady Bandit's arrest

The FBI is offering an £8,000 ($10,000) reward in a bid to catch a bank robber dubbed the "Pink Lady Bandit" by agents.

The woman, whose “distinctive pink handbag” earnt her the nickname, is said to have hit four banks along the US east coast over the past eight days.

During each robbery, the suspect showed bank staff “a note that demanded money”, according to the FBI’s Charlotte division.

She has been described as a white or Hispanic woman who is around 5ft 3in tall and weighs around 60kg.

The woman is nicknamed the Pink Lady Bandit because of the signature pink handbag she carried during two of the robberies.

The “bandit” carried her pink handbag during at least two of the robberies, and also wore leggings, a strappy top and a navy baseball hat, CCTV footage has shown.

The first heist took place at Orrstown Bank in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, on July 20.

Three days later, she was spotted across state lines at the M&T Bank in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

The following day she crossed state lines again to hit the Southern Bank in Ayden, North Carolina, on July 24.

The FBI issued a wanted poster after she struck a fourth bank in eight days

FBI Charlotte tweeted its public appeal for help on Saturday following her fourth robbery, again in North Carolina.

It wrote: “The #PinkLadyBandit struck again in NC. She hit a bank in Hamlet yesterday.

“The #FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000. The same suspect has robbed banks in at least 3 states. @FBIPhiladelphia @FBIBaltimore Help us identify her and get her into custody safely.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local FBI Office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate. Tips can also be submitted at tips.fbi.gov.
