FBI Director Kash Patel announced his intention to relocate more agency jobs from the Washington, DC, region to field offices across the country and the FBI facility in Alabama. This move is part of a broader strategy to shift resources away from the bureau's headquarters, as outlined in an email obtained by a source.
Patel, who recently assumed the role of director, emphasized his commitment to reducing the footprint of the National Capital Region. He aims to enhance field resources and operational capabilities to better support impactful investigations and protect the American people.

The FBI has already begun transitioning some operations to its Huntsville facility, which currently houses approximately 1,300 employees. This initiative aligns with a strategy initiated in 2016 to decrease the bureau's presence in Washington.
During his confirmation hearing, Patel faced questions regarding his previous statements about potentially converting the FBI headquarters into a museum. He clarified that his focus is on relocating agents and investigative efforts to various regions within the country to enhance national security.
