FBI Confirms Shooter In Georgia School Attack Was Previously Flagged

The Federal Bureau of Investigation seal is seen at FBI headquarters in Washington

The FBI has confirmed that the alleged shooter responsible for the tragic incident at a Georgia high school had been on their radar as a potential threat since last year. The incident resulted in the loss of two students and two teachers, with nine others sustaining injuries.

In a joint statement issued by the FBI's Atlanta field office and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, it was revealed that the National Threat Operations Center received an anonymous tip in May 2023 regarding threats of a possible school shooting. The threats, which included images of firearms, prompted immediate action from investigators.

Within a day of receiving the tip, authorities were able to trace the threats back to Georgia and subsequently involved the sheriff's office in the investigation. A 13-year-old male was identified as a possible suspect, and both he and his father were interviewed by law enforcement. The father confirmed the presence of hunting guns in their home but assured that the young individual did not have unsupervised access to them.

Tragically, the situation escalated on Wednesday when Colt Gray, now 14 years old, carried out the shooting at Apalachee High School, resulting in the loss of lives and widespread devastation. Gray ultimately surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody following the violent incident.
