The FBI announced on Thursday that it is conducting a search in Colorado Springs in connection to the Tesla Cybertruck explosion that occurred outside Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on Wednesday morning.
The FBI Denver office, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Colorado Springs Police Department, are currently engaged in law enforcement activity at a residential address in Colorado Springs. Specialized teams from the FBI Denver office will be on-site for several hours as part of the ongoing investigation.
Following the explosion in Las Vegas, which resulted in one fatality and seven injuries, the FBI Denver office has refrained from providing further details due to the active nature of the investigation.
Details of the Incident
The explosion involving a Tesla Cybertruck took place in front of Trump International Hotel Las Vegas on Wednesday morning. The Las Vegas Police Department is leading the investigation into the incident, which occurred near S. Sammy Davis Jr. Drive and Fashion Drive. Authorities are also considering the possibility of terrorism in relation to the explosion.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the explosion was not caused by a malfunction of the vehicle. According to Musk, the senior team at Tesla determined that the explosion was the result of large fireworks and/or a bomb that was carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck. Vehicle telemetry data indicated no issues with the Cybertruck at the time of the explosion.
