A Fayette County state senator is recovering after sustaining a horse-related injury over the weekend. Lexington Senator Amanda Mays Bledsoe reports she was caring for her family’s horse when unexpectedly kicked in the face. She underwent emergency surgery over the weekend. Mays Bledsoe said though the injury is serious, she’s expects to make a full recovery and will not have any long-term or permanent damage. She expressed appreciation for Fayette County EMS, fire department, and medical professionals at UK Hospital Trauma Critical Care Center. Saying there’s never a convenient time to be injured, it’s less fortunate for it to happen right before the holidays and the start of the 2024 General Assembly session. Mays Bledsoe, who served for years on Lexington’s City Council, is in her first term in the Senate and serves as vice-chair of the powerful Budget Committee.
