Fayette county clerk making future plans with hopes of increasing voting

In her first term as Fayette County’s lead election official, County Clerk Susan Lamb is eager to see voter numbers increase. Part of the strategy involves new voting centers.

The November General Election is now just over six weeks away. Between now and then are opportunities for voter registration, absentee voting, and early voting in Fayette County. County Clerk Susan Lamb said early voting November 2nd, 3rd, and 4th is being expanded to Northside, Eastside, and Tates Creek Libraries as well as returning to the Senior Center.

“We have opportunities before us to be able to increase voter turnout and lessen the time that it takes for someone to vote, which would hopefully encourage more people to come out and vote,” said Lamb.

The training of more than 11 hundred election officers runs from the end of September to the end of October. Lamb said there are plans to include vote center opportunities on Election Day for next year’s presidential election.

“We believe we’re going to be able to use all of the high schools next year on Election Day and create vote centers in addition to the precincts. We’re not taking the precincts away, but we want to be able to allow people to go to the high schools and vote on Election Day,” said Lamb.

Lamb said all indications point to a relatively high voter turnout in November.
