Lights costing tens of thousand pounds installed along Clevedon seafront are being re-set - after they starting switching on in broad daylight. North Somerset Council spent £80,000 on the strings of new lights along the seafront as part of a new programme.
But locals have been noticing that often only one of the strings of lights is illuminated at night, with other sections along the prom remaining in the dark. Other residents have said the lights have been coming on in the day - in bright sunlight, reports Somerset Live.
North Somerset Council has admitted a problem occurred with the timers on the new lights, which it hopes is now rectified. A spokesman said: “The new lights have been installed as part of our lighting replacement programme.

“The lights come on and go off using a timer and this needed adjusting. An engineer visited the site yesterday to reset the timer.” The problems with the new lighting comes at the same time as locals and businesses are calling for changes to the road layout along the seafront to be reversed.
The most recent work along The Beach has seen a new buff surfacing installed which residents have dubbed Clevedon’s ‘yellow brick road.’ Locals and businesses say the controversial changes - which have cost £700,000 - have made the Victorian seafront more dangerous for pedestrians and motorists.
And this isn't the first addition to the seafront that has caused heartache for people. Furious locals claimed their 'lovely Victorian seafront' has been 'ruined' by a new road layout that has been branded a farcical 'yellow brick road'. Council contractors were back at Clevedon's The Beach last night to install the ‘buff’ surfacing.
It comes after a new roundabout in the coastal town was the butt of jokes from locals due to its bizarre layout. The authority then removed and repainted it - just weeks after it was first installed.
The new road design has been put in which locals say locals say equivalent to the Wizard of Oz's fictional Emerald City - following the appearance of its own yellow brick road.
They say the surfacing - in bright contrast to the newly laid road - has ‘devastated’ the Victorian seafront forever and can be seen for miles around. Others have described it as looking like an airport landing strip or the entrance to a shopping mall. It is understood the 'yellow brick road' will get bigger with more work planned over the coming nights.
A spokesman for the Save our Seafront campaign group said: “It’s heartbreaking to see. They have ruined our lovely Victorian seafront.”
