Father-of-three jailed for prohibited internet access

Undeclared internet access cost a father-of-three from Brislington a jail term. Marcus Stroud failed to declare internet-enabled phones to police under the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, Bristol Crown Court heard.

The 29-year-old, of Broomhill Road, pleaded guilty to two breaches of a SHPO and a further charge of failing to notify his whereabouts to police. Judge James Patrick sent him to prison for 28 months. He told Stroud: "Until you've learned to do what you are told to do you will spend longer and longer in custody. The more you keep offending, the longer you will spend in custody."

Lucie Stoker, prosecuting, said in late January police discovered that Stroud had an undeclared internet-enabled Samsung mobile phone. When they paid a call on him in early February he said he had only bought the device the day before, but it transpired he had been using it for just over a week.

In a subsequent breach police discovered Stroud had made Facebook posts. In May police discovered Stroud had been missing from his Broomhill Road address and he had an internet enabled-phone for which he gave the wrong PIN.

John Stokes, defending, urged credit for his client's guilty pleas. Mr Stokes told the court: "He has a complex history in terms of both childhood and adulthood. He has issues regarding maturity. Prison would be unhealthy for his development and self-management."

Mr Stokes added that his client had not kept police informed of his devices and wherabouts as he had undergone health concerns and emotional problems.
