The father of Apalachee High School shooter Colt Gray has pleaded not guilty to the 29 counts facing him, which include two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Colin Gray, 54, did not personally appear in court as his attorneys entered a not guilty plea on his behalf and waived his formal arraignment.
Colin Gray's son, 14-year-old Colt Gray, is accused of perpetrating a mass shooting at the Georgia high school on Sept. 4, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to nine others. Colt Gray has also pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
A Barrow County grand jury indicted Colt Gray on a total of 55 counts as an adult, including murder charges in the deaths of four individuals and 25 counts of aggravated assault at the high school. Both Colt and his father face multiple counts of cruelty to children.
Colin Gray was arrested and charged with allegedly purchasing the firearm used in the shooting and giving it to Colt as a Christmas gift.
The tragic incident claimed the lives of teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53, as well as students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14. Additionally, another teacher and eight students sustained injuries, with seven of them being struck by gunfire.
It is noteworthy that Georgia is one of 42 states in the United States that holds parents criminally responsible for the actions of their children.
