A father in Georgia, whose murder conviction was overturned in the tragic hot car death of his toddler son, has been released from prison nearly a decade after the incident occurred. Justin Ross Harris, who left his 22-month-old son strapped in his car while he worked, was found guilty in November 2016 on eight counts, including malice murder.
The case gained global attention as parents are rarely charged with murder in such incidents, often considered tragic accidents due to forgetfulness or miscommunication. Harris, a web developer for Home Depot, had forgotten to drop his son off at daycare on a hot summer day in 2014, leading to the child's death from heat exposure.
