A tragic mid-air collision occurred near Los Angeles, California, on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the death of a pilot and injuring another individual. The incident involved a Yakovlev Yak 52 aircraft and a Nanchang CJ-6A, which collided near Lancaster, located approximately an hour and a half north of Los Angeles, around noon.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) confirmed the fatality resulting from the collision but did not provide information on any other occupants on board the aircraft. The crash led to one of the planes landing in the vicinity of 47th Street East and Avenue F, while the other aircraft landed near 60th Street East and Avenue G, as reported by Sheila Kelliher of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Authorities indicated that the National Transportation Safety Board would dispatch investigators to the scene on Monday to collect relevant information regarding the collision. Additionally, Lancaster deputies were present at the site to assist with managing traffic and implementing necessary street closures to facilitate the investigation.
