Tragedy struck a town market in eastern France as one person lost their life and multiple individuals were wounded in a knife attack. The incident, labeled as an act of terror by French authorities, unfolded at the covered canal market in Mulhouse.
Mulhouse town mayor Michèle Lutz expressed shock and sorrow over the events, stating that a man launched a knife attack on passers-by at the market. In the attempt to subdue the attacker, several municipal police officers sustained injuries.
The suspect responsible for the attack has been apprehended and is currently in police custody, as confirmed by the office of France’s national anti-terror prosecutor. Reports indicate that the assailant specifically targeted municipal police officers, shouting “Allahu Akbar,” and also attacked a civilian. Tragically, one civilian lost their life in the attack, while three officers were injured.
French President Emmanuel Macron extended his condolences to the victim’s family and assured that the national anti-terror prosecutor is actively investigating the incident. Macron unequivocally labeled the attack as an Islamic terrorist act, citing the words spoken by the assailant during the assault.
