A recent dog attack in San Diego's Mira Mesa community has left one person dead and another seriously injured, as reported by the San Diego Humane Society. The incident occurred when Humane Society officers responded to an urgent call from the San Diego Police Department regarding a man being attacked by multiple dogs.
Tragically, the first victim sustained fatal injuries, prompting the Humane Society to express their condolences to the victim's family during this challenging time. Upon arrival at the scene, Humane Officers collaborated with the SDPD to locate and safely impound two loose dogs, while a third dog was secured in a vehicle.
The dogs were placed under mandatory bite quarantine protocols and were later euthanized following standard procedures. Rabies tests are currently being conducted to ensure public safety. Additionally, a second individual was discovered the following day with serious bite injuries sustained while trying to assist the initial victim. The injured person was promptly transported to the hospital and is now in recovery.
Further investigation revealed video footage of the owner walking the dogs towards the park approximately two hours before the incident. The dogs involved in the attack were signed over to the Humane Society by a second owner, who disclosed that the dogs were purchased as 'XL bully breeds.' Notably, there was no prior history of incidents involving these animals in the Humane Society's records.
Nina Thompson, the director of public relations for the San Diego Humane Society, emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and collaborative with law enforcement partners. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the thorough review of this tragic event.
