In a tragic incident in Naples, Italy, a pedestrian walkway collapsed in a housing project, resulting in the loss of two lives and injuring a dozen others. The collapse, which occurred overnight, claimed the lives of a 29-year-old male and a 35-year-old woman. Among the injured were seven children aged between 2 to 10, with two of them in intensive care.
The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation, and authorities have taken swift action by evacuating the building where the incident took place. Additionally, the use of pedestrian walkways in other sections of the 'Blue Sail' housing block has been blocked as a precautionary measure.
The 'Blue Sail' housing block is part of a larger complex consisting of seven housing blocks constructed between 1962 and 1975. The building where the collapse occurred was already earmarked for renovations amounting to 18 million euros ($19.5 million). Furthermore, four other buildings have already been demolished, and two more are scheduled for demolition as part of the ongoing redevelopment efforts.
