Zambia's record-cap holder has told Fashion Sakala that more backlash will come of his international supporters criticism - but the Rangers star has to ignore it.
The Premiership forward was left disappointed despite strong performances for his country on AFCON qualifcation duty, as fans hit out at him. He called the experience the 'worst' of his career after 'endlessly booing' him during a match with Lesotho. He has received messages of support since the statement but now has been told thick skin will be needed.
2012 AFCON-winning keeper and Zambia’s most-capped player with 122 appearances, Kennedy Mweene, has weighed in on the situation and is sympathetic with the Rangers attacker's situation. But speaking to Bola News, insists any more criticism shouldn't be responded to: “I think one thing I will say not only to Fashion but to all the young Chipolopolo players is that when they [fans] say all those things, don’t go and respond to them.
“You know how passionate Zambians are about football. Don’t go to social media to respond to critics; answer them on the pitch, it's not worth it to be answering what's being said on social media.
“In Zambia, he must be prepared [for more criticism], this is just the beginning, as long as you play for the national team, those people [fans] own you, my friend. You must know that.
“He should not take it personal but learn from the criticism that is thrown at him. But don’t react on social media, that's what made some of us be where we are today."
