Fascinating footage will transport you back in time to Liverpool city centre in 1999

This fascinating footage will transport you back in time to Liverpool city centre in 1999.

The city's skyline is constantly changing as new developments pop up and businesses come and go. One video which captures that change was taken by Alan Ditchfield, 45, on the roof of the old Odeon cinema on London Road before it underwent a refurbishment in 1999.

Alan previously shared his memories with the ECHO of working at the cinema from 1996 up until its closure in 2008 when it was replaced by the Liverpool ONE multiplex. The Odeon on London Road opened for business on October 15, 1934 and became the home of first dates, nights out and even some of Liverpool's biggest gigs and events for 74 years.

It started life as one of the seven UK Paramount Theatres, cost £240,000 to build and was the largest cinema in Merseyside.

London Road has as changed dramatically over the years as department stores and pubs have closed their doors to be replaced by student accommodation, food stores and takeaways.

Footage shows what the famous street used to look like in 1999 along with the other parts of the city centre.
