Fascinating footage from drone enthusiast shows abandoned Lanarkshire kart track

New footage from a drone enthusiast shows an abandoned Lanarkshire kart track.

Cambuslang Karting was once popular with visitors but the now vacant site has been captured from the air by George Allison, who stays in the area.

The owners of the business closed its doors in December 2018 and since then the site has not been used.

George told Lanarkshire Live: “I got a drone a while back to help me gather footage on a report on Clyde shipbuilding, but since then I’ve been having a look around at where I live. It’s interesting having a different perspective on things.

“The drone basically flies on its own to be honest. You just tell them how high and where to go.

“I’ve had it for a couple of months now and I’m hoping to have a look at other interesting places whenever I find them.

“I’ve been heading further into the Greater Glasgow area, but my aim is to explore as much of the local area as possible first.

“I’ve noticed the track on the train a few times and thought I’d take the drone for a look.

“The fact that the location is on the way into Cambuslang by road and rail is quite a shame, being the first thing many people see of the town.”

The new footage shows the abandoned area next to the nearby train station.

The owners announced the closure on their Facebook page, stating: “For those that don’t already know Cambuslang Karting is now closed permanently.

“Too many people to mention but thank you to everyone for hard work and support, we couldn’t have done it without you.

“After over a decade introducing newcomers to the sport of Karting our last event in December was the final chequered flag for Cambuslang Karting and we are sadly now closed.”
