Farmhouse spring decor ideas – 6 inspiring ways to marry this rustic style with the fresh new season

Pink living room with wooden floor, fireplace with logs and log burner, blue wooden armchair and blue plates on mantel.

Marrying the rustic and the fresh, spring farmhouse decor welcomes the new season by bringing the outside in.

The farmhouse look takes its name from past interiors that were often simple, characterful, and full of rustic charm. When farmhouse decor is combined with spring decor, the result is a delicate and thoughtful blend of styles that showcase the beauty of the rural.

To invite spring into the home, we've made a list of easy decor tweaks to embrace the new season while giving your home a warm and cozy edge.

1. Rustic floral arrangements

When it comes to farmhouse spring decor, one idea instantly comes to mind – fresh flower arrangements. Floral displays are always a good idea. Whether it's a bunch of vibrant daffodils or some soft baby's breath, it's an easy way of inviting nature into the home.

To bring the all-important rustic charm of the farmhouse style, opt for a vintage vase to marry spring with the classic style. 'It may seem obvious, but my favorite way to decorate for spring in the farmhouse style is to add a big, eye-catching vase of fresh flowers, ideally, locally sourced from your environment', suggests designer Kathy Kuo.

'It's a great way to get a rustic and farm-fresh feeling and you also have the opportunity to choose a vase that feels in line with your farmhouse aesthetic (think: stoneware crocks, rustic pottery, and traditional blown glass).'

2. Create a country-style tablescape

No farmhouse-style home is ready for spring without a pretty, country-inspired table. Spring is when the sun starts to shine again, making it the perfect time to host all types of events, from sunny brunches to afternoon drinks.

A farmhouse table is at the heart of spring activities. There are many ways to create a spring tablescape but to truly channel the rustic look, incorporate antique-style pieces mixed with fresh foliage, floral prints, and pastel colors.

Don't be afraid to mix and match as this is what the spring farmhouse style is all about. A pair of vintage candleholders would beautifully frame your table, paired with a set of colored taper candles. Or, a rustic wooden cheeseboard would look lovely beneath a fresh floral arrangement.

3. Adorn your mantle with farmhouse spring decor

The farmhouse style looks great in any home but if you're blessed with original architectural features you're in luck. Whether it's a fireplace, a wooden beam, or something as simple as a window, spring foliage will do a great job framing these areas.

There are plenty of ways to decorate with flowers. You could wrap a delicate floral garland around a beam or drape it around a fireplace and an easy spring mantel decor idea. Or, for a less dramatic look, hang a few bunches of flowers upside down along a wall for a charming, homely feel.

For those of us with more contemporary homes, opt for a simpler yet classic alternative by displaying a potted plant underneath a window or a bouquet on an entryway table.

4. Opt for pretty seasonal patterns

While florals are almost always a good idea, they couldn't be more necessary for spring decorating. Pretty nature-inspired patterns have a vintage feel that pairs beautifully with all home styles, bringing country-style coziness and charm.

Plenty of quick fixes make a home feel ready for spring but perhaps the most easy and impactful way of welcoming the new season is by introducing plenty of print. There are many ways to decorate with patterns as it's the perfect way to bring some life into the home.

Replace old bedding for a more farmhouse-style alternative like a set of vintage floral sheets or a handmade quilt. Or if you're looking to create a more lasting look, you could attempt some at-home DIY and reupholster an armchair with traditional ditsy fabric.

5. Decorate with gingham for an instant farmhouse feel

You can't beat gingham and stripes when embracing farmhouse spring decor, and if they're in a mustard yellow complete with frills you can't go wrong.

'When I think of farmhouse spring decor, I think of natural materials – wood, stone, cotton, linen, wool – materials which are in keeping with their surroundings,' says Tori Murphy, designer and founder of Tori Murphy. 'Choose fabrics with texture and kitchen textiles with character. Having a family gathering around your kitchen table, set simply with a cotton tablecloth in warm and welcoming spring colors, is a great place to start with evoking farmhouse style.'

6. Pair warm wood with spring hues

To truly nail the spring farmhouse look, always pay attention to color. You want to avoid shades that feel loud as these will detract from the subtlety of spring colors.

Whether working with old architecture or decorating a modern home, always choose warm wood accents to pair with traditional spring shades as this combination is a recipe for homeliness and character. Now is the time to bring in as much wood as possible.

Whether it's a vintage wooden coffee table paired with a pale yellow vase or a simple wooden trinket box placed on top of a stack of pastel books, these natural pieces will provide a coziness that's only enhanced by the right color palette.

If you're braving a new lick of paint, a muted plaster pink will allow dark wood accents to shine while a more moody sage paired with a piece of pale oak furniture will create a light, bright, and fresh feel.

The farmhouse style pairs so well with the freshness of spring. It's truly the perfect pairing for those looking to add some character and life into the home, mirroring the classic interiors of country cottages.
