Farmers’ protest: Tussle with cops for Delhi march, mahapanchayat in Noida on Day 3

The farmers’ protest in Gautam Buddha Nagar over inadequate compensation for government land acquisition entered its third day. The farmers continued demanding fair compensation and assurance that 10 percent of the acquired land will be allotted to them, as per law.

On December 3, the farmers protested at Noida’s Dalit Prerna Sthal, and a five-member team was formed to consider their demands. But late in the evening, the police detained 123 farmers protesting at the site. Subsequently, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait called for a mahapanchayat of the United Kisan Morcha at Noida’s Zero Point.

At least 30 locations were heavily barricaded to prevent farmers’ entry. However, a large group of farmers, including women, made their way to Zero Point and held the panchayat. The 123 detained farmers were also released. Newslaundry spoke to the protesting farmers about their issues and demands.
