Farmer convoy to impact major roads in Canberra's morning peak hour

A convoy of about 100 trucks is expected to roll through major roads during morning peak hour in Canberra on Tuesday.

The National Farmer Rally will have two groups of trucks entering Canberra from the Barton Highway and Federal Highway after 8am on September 10.

The trucks will drive down Northbourne Avenue towards the City. They will drive by Parliament House and will return to EPIC between 8am and 11am.

The roads that will be impacted include:

  • Northbourne Avenue
  • Cooyong and Coranderrk Streets
  • Parkes Way
  • Monaro Highway and Hindmarsh Drive (near Fyshwick)
  • Canberra Avenue
  • State Circle

The protesters are expected to park the trucks at EPIC and take buses to attend a rally at Federation Mall at 11am.

The convoy is expected to leave Canberra from 2pm.

The farmers are demanding a raft of changes from the federal government, including reinstating the live sheep export trade.

Nationals Leader David Littleproud is expected to address the rally.

Public transport impacts

The convoy will affect the school run, including buses and light rail services.

From 8am traffic congestion is expected between the Barton Highway and State Circle.

Drivers are urged to either allow extra time or find a detour to avoid these areas.

The UniSports Nationals at EPIC will go ahead, with entry via gates 1 and 2.
