Farhad Moshiri refusing to rule out Everton takeover

Sources close to Farhad Moshiri are refusing to rule out a potential sale of Everton.

Reports emerged on Wednesday evening that Peter Kenyon was fronting a consortium that included the chief executive of Minneapolis-based Talon Real Estate, Maciek Kaminski, and American businessman John Thornton and it was taking advice from US law firm Weil, Gotshal and Manges along with investment specialist Michael Klein.

The timing of the articles has raised eyebrows given Moshiri, who has invested over half a billion pounds into Everton since he became majority shareholder in 2016, reiterated his commitment to the club in an open letter to fans less than a week ago, while with on the new stadium progressing on schedule, there would potentially be scope to sell the club at a significantly greater price once the riverside venue opens in the 2024/25 season.

Moshiri, who has paid for the enabling works as part of a phased funding model for the new stadium, has previously indicated that the club would be looking to secure money from the private sector to complete the estimated £500million project and talks with would-be investors are understood to have developed into discussions over the possibility of a full-scale takeover.

With Everton having been on site at Bramley-Moore Dock since July last year and construction of the new 52,888 capacity stadium now well on the way – the four concrete cores which represent the corners of the structure have already been built – the ECHO also understands that regardless of ownership, its completion should not be compromised and any interested parties wishing to buy the Blues would have to factor in the building cost.
