Far-right National Rally party leader Jordan Bardella has criticized what he referred to as an 'alliance of dishonor' between President Emmanuel Macron and the far-left party, which he believes led to his party losing more seats than expected in the recent elections.
In the second round of elections held on Sunday, the National Rally (RN) faced a setback as they were projected to lose more seats than initially predicted to France's left-wing socialist party, the New Popular Front, and Macron's Ensemble party.
Bardella expressed gratitude towards the French people for the unprecedented number of votes his party received but went on to criticize Macron's decision to call for the election.
The RN leader accused Macron and Prime Minister Gabriel Attal of engaging in 'dangerous electoral games' with the far left, claiming that this put the RN in a 'compromising situation,' especially considering their success in the European election where they attained 34% of the vote.
Bardella highlighted that the RN was leading significantly after the first round and was polling at 45% in certain regions of France.
Expressing disappointment, Bardella accused Macron of not only plunging the country into 'uncertainty and instability' but also of rejecting 'the request for security.'
