Fantasy Premier League tips: Who to buy and captain ahead of today’s deadline for double gameweek 27

Today marks the start of a double gameweek for a handful of teams in Fantasy Premier League.

FPL managers will no doubt be looking towards in-form Brighton and Brentford players to maximise their haul in gameweek 27 although some may be tempted to take a chance on the unfancied Southampton and Crystal Palace.

This week’s deadine is set for 11am GMT today and here are our tips.

Ivan Toney - Brentford - £7.7m

Any fears that Toney is soon to be banned from action should not deter you from selecting the forward not just for this double gameweek but also Brentford’s double gameweek 29. There are no signs he is dropping off his form, and struggling Everton and Southampton are low-hanging fruit to add to his eight points against Fulham (when he shared bonus points with Carlos Vinicus?! That was weird).

Evan Ferguson - Brighton - £4.6m

This column has recommended Solly March and Kaoru Mitoma in recent weeks so this time the focus is on Ferguson, the bargain striker who is making himself Roberto De Zerbi’s first-choice forward ahead of facing Leeds and Palace. Given Brighton’s strong defence, you may only want one or two offensive players in your squad and Ferguson averages a goal involvement every 76 minutes.

Wilfried Zaha - Crystal Palace - £7.2m

The Eagles are a bit of an avoid at the moment, winless in 2023. Still, if you are going to plump for a turnaround then it really has to be the fit-again Zaha sparking it.

Carlos Alcaraz - Southampton - £5m

James Ward-Prowse is the obvious pick for Saints’ double gameweek against Manchester United and Brentford. Flying under the radar with goals in both his Premier League starts since joining in January is midfielder Alcaraz, who has an ultra-low selection level. Beware though, he is an injury doubt.

Erling Haaland - Man City - £12.2m

There are whispers in the FPL community that it is time to ditch Haaland ahead of facing Palace, a blank gameweek, and then Liverpool. My answer is not to captain the Norwegian by a matter of course every week as there are gains to be made on those who do - but do not drop him. A 17-point haul against Palace at home is one of several reasons and free-hitting for GW28 is the best option for many managers.
