Gameweek 20 Fantasy Football Tips: Big Man Bakar Tackles The Key Questions
Leading Fantasy Football tips pundit Big Man Bakar is back ahead of Gameweek 20 to give you his thoughts on eight questions that include the best captain, top bargain buy and just who to replace the suspended Matheus Cunha with.
All in time for the FPL gameweek 20 deadline of Saturday 20th January 2024 at 11am.
Q) What to do with Matheus Cunha? Best replacement?
Cunha’s suspension makes him an easy sell this week.
Wolves are scheduled to play Newcastle, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal in four of their next five fixtures after Cunha’s return which is not a run you’d want him for anyway.
Isak would be my first choice replacement if you don’t own him by now.
His underlying data and upcoming fixtures make him an absolute must have in the coming weeks.
He’s coming up against an obliging Spurs defence which is missing several key players due to injury so chances are that new Isak owners are rewarded straight away.
If you already own Isak, then I’d look to go for Chris Wood. He’s actually one of the very few forwards that appeal to me at the moment.
His minutes are secure, he is on penalties and the fixtures are still decent going forward. Wood’s price is also similar to Cunha’s so he should be an easy to get like-for-like replacement.
Q) Jurrien Timber – keep or sell?
I think Jurrien Timber’s suspension presents owners with a good opportunity to get rid of him.
At £5.7m, he’s still expected to offer good value playing in what is an elite defence.
However, given that Timber will miss GW20 and Arsenal’s fixtures are becoming increasingly challenging, he could be a useful cash cow for managers wanting to free up funds for players like Isak or Trent.
Q) Best budget defender to buy this week?
This is probably the toughest question of the Gameweek to answer.
I am in the market for a cheap defender myself but I’m so torn between who to pick that I’ll give myself another week to gain some extra information.
Munoz, Hall and Andersen/Castagne are the ones who immediately standout.
Realistically, it should be between Munoz and Hall as they are more explosive than the Fulham defenders but if budget is a constraint, then the Fulham defenders are definitely viable too.
Both Newcastle and Palace have relatively tough fixtures from a defensive point of view this week, so it’s tricky to pick between Munoz and Hall.
The pair have an outstanding run of fixtures coming up, Munoz has the greater goal threat but Hall tends to do better for assist potential and bonus accumulation. Take your pick!
Q) Raul Jimenez – keep or sell?
I feel like I’ve been answering this question for months and getting it wrong every week.
I did not expect Jimenez to start against Bournemouth after Muniz’s winner against Chelsea, but it’s funny how the tables have turned again after Jimenez scoring and impressing against Bournemouth.
By contrast, Muniz was poor when he came on and Fulham looked quite toothless after the time Jimenez was substituted.
I think Jimenez starts this week, and probably gets subbed close to the 70 minute mark again.
That surely makes Jimenez worth keeping, given his price and the appeal of the fixture.
Q) Dominic Solanke – keep or sell?
I think the answer to this question is fairly team dependent.
Solanke is still a solid asset to own and keep but if he is the only realistic route to Isak in your team, then he’s worth selling.
Isak’s fixtures are so good that even for £1.7m extra, he is probably worth the premium.
If you own both Isak and Solanke, then there is little need to sell the Spurs striker with the dearth of appealing forwards in play.
Q) Morgan Rogers – keep or sell?
Again, the answer to this question is team specific.
If you have eight playable attackers and can afford to bench Rogers this week, then I would as he is still expected to be good value for a while.
However, if Rogers is your seventh attacker and you don’t have an able substitute to cover for his absence, then you can consider moving him on.
I would try stretching to someone like Sarr or Eze to target Palace’s upcoming fixtures.
Q) Buy Watkins or Isak this week?
I’d go for Isak, for sure.
Watkins is a great asset to own at home to Leicester this week, but once Duran returns from his suspension, both of them will share minutes again.
Isak is the clear winner when it comes to expected minutes in the long run.
Q) Who is the best captain this week?
I think this is a really easy one to answer this week.
Given Salah’s form and his status as the bookmakers’ top pick to deliver against a faltering Man United defence, he’s a no-brainer for the armband.
