Knowledge is power and the greatest asset you can acquire in order to compete for a fantasy football championship.
Here’s your 2022 preview of the Washington Commanders, the 32nd of 32 team profiles during draft season:
— 2022 Fantasy MVP: Terry McLaurin, WR
McLaurin (ADP: 45) produced Per 17 Games averages of 82 receptions (132 targets), 1,142 yards and six touchdowns his first three seasons in the NFL with Alex Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Dwayne Haskins, Colt McCoy, Case Keenum, Kyle Allen, Taylor Heinicke and Garrett Gilbert throwing him the football. I don’t expect Carson Wentz to be the second coming, but he did help guide Michael Pittman Jr. to a WR16 finish in standard formats (WR17 in PPR) last season.
— 2022 Fantasy Sleeper: Carson Wentz, QB
Regardless of what you think of Wentz (ADP: 207), he’s a massive upgrade over Heinicke and he’s being drafted as a QB26 after finishing as fantasy’s QB14 in a run-oriented offense in 2021. He’ll likely be a solid option if you plan to stream this season or you participate in super-flex format.
— 2022 Fantasy Bust: Antonio Gibson, RB
I’d be all-in on Gibson (ADP: 56) if he was the undisputed No. 1 back in Washington, and he’d be a steal where he’s currently being drafted. I believe in his talent, but it’s clear the Commanders have questions. They resigned JD McKissic after he had already agreed with Buffalo in free agency and they drafted Alabama’s Brian Robinson in the third round. Robinson actually took first-team reps against Kansas City in the second preseason game, before suffering multiple gunshot wounds in an attempted robbery. It wouldn’t surprise me if Washington brings in a free agent to compete with Gibson until Robinson is healthy enough to return, and don’t forget about McKissic taking his share of touches.
— 2022 Fantasy Rookie to watch: Jahan Dotson, WR
Dotson (ADP: 151) features the game-breaking speed to beat defenses at all three levels, has excellent hands (only two drops on 138 targets in 2021) and is good against press coverage despite his size. He’s a great value in the later rounds, but I’m interested to see how his role overlaps with a healthy Curtis Samuel (ADP: 263).
