A NEW flight route between Scotland and North America will launch this summer.
Flights will connect Edinburgh to Montreal, in Canada, for the first time, Air Canada has announced.
The carrier said it was growing its “presence at Scotland’s busiest airport” with the introduction of the route.
Montreal, in French-speaking Quebec, is one of Canada’s most popular cities for foreign visitors and is considered a cultural hub. It is the largest city in the province and well known for its music and comedy scenes, food offerings such as bagels and poutine, and historic French old town.
Travellers from Scotland will be able to fly direct from Edinburgh to Montreal three times a week between June 27 and September 7, Air Canada said.
Gordon Dewar, the chief executive of Edinburgh Airport, said: "This is a fantastic addition to our North America connectivity, and we are delighted that Air Canada is adding more options from Scotland’s busiest airport.
“We see continued demand for direct links between Canada and Scotland, and that demand is both inbound and outbound, demonstrating the attractiveness of Edinburgh and Scotland to an international audience as well as the excitement people here have for a country we have strong bonds with.
“This addition is also a big vote of confidence from Air Canada in Edinburgh’s market, and we look forward to welcoming this new route later this summer.”
