The trailer has just dropped for Fantastic Friends, a new “magic-infused” travel and challenge show from James and Oliver Phelps - the actors best known for playing Harry Potter’s Weasley twins.
The trailer shows the Phelps brothers on some giant rocks in Ireland, dressing up in lederhosen, standing in ice caves, whizzing around Dubai on jet skis, hand-gliding, snorkelling, travelling in a hot air balloon, and sword fighting - among other fun activities.
“We spent a decade playing Fred and George in the Harry Potter movies. We’ve been lucky enough to travel all over the world with our work, and making some fantastic friends. And now, it’s time to bring you on the journey with us,” narrates one of the brothers over the scenes. Playing on the Harry Potter theme, there’s some Hogwarts-style classical music playing in the background of the trailer too.
The new show will feature some of their Harry Potter friends: Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), Luke Youngblood (Lee Jordan) and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood). Plus Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams will be on the show, as will The Sixth Sense’s Haley Joel Osment and Outlander’s Sophie Skelton.
It looks like each episode of the six-part series will be an exploration of a different country, and at each spot, they’ll be joined by one of their famous friends. The six destinations they will visit are St Lucia, Ireland, Austria, Dubai, Poland and Iceland.
According to Variety, the show promises to be a “part adventure-travel series, part magic-infused challenge show and part a celebration of friendship”.
It is being directed and produced by Daniel Sharp, the producer of Vikings: Rise and Fall and Top Gear America.
Sharp said: “It has been great to be able to travel again and to create this fun, daring and innovative series. It was a real pleasure to be joined by James and Oliver, who not only starred in the series but worked as hands-on execs throughout.”
After their last outing as the Weasley brothers in the Harry Potter films in 2011, both have had some acting roles, with both appearing in 2021’s Last Night in Soho. Oliver also featured in 2015’s Danny and the Human Zoo, while James was in 2015’s Patchwork.
The brothers are also scheduled to be attending this weekend’s Supanova Comic Con & Gaming convention in Perth.
