Newcastle fans are ecstatic on social media after the club officially announced the signing of Brighton’s Dan Burn deep into deadline day.
A £13million deal was agreed between the two clubs on Sunday and the 29-year-old travelled up to Tyneside to undergo a medical at the club’s Benton training ground.
However, fans online were beginning to get nervous as the clock ticked towards the 11pm deadline.
Matt Targett’s move from Aston Villa had been confirmed several hours beforehand as supporters eagerly awaited news of another new signing.
Supporters breathed a sigh of relief minutes before the window slammed shut when the club announced Burn - who is from Blyth and was released by Newcastle as a schoolboy - had become the Magpies’ fifth winter addition.
A classy message from his former club Brighton was one of many responses, as they urged the defender to ‘smash it’ at his boyhood club.
Newcastle fans were keen to express their joy at the news - which placed the cherry on the cake of a successful window for the Magpies.
