'Fantastic addition' - Manchester United fans excited about Marcel Sabitzer transfer interest

Manchester United supporters have reacted positively to reports stating that the Reds are currently working on a deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer on loan until the end of the season.

The Manchester Evening News understands that United are confident of completing the loan signing of the 28-year-old before the January transfer window closes later tonight. The Austrian has been identified as a short-term option to fill the void left by Christian Eriksen, who is sidelined for three months with an ankle injury.

Sabitzer signed for Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2021, and the midfielder has made 54 appearances for the reigning Bundesliga champions since joining the club. Despite making 15 appearances for Julian Nagelsmann's side this term, the Austria international has only made seven starts.

The Reds have just two senior midfielders available at the moment, with Brazilian duo Casemiro and Fred, both of whom were on target against Paul Ince's side at the weekend, the only central midfielders currently available. United are preparing to play eight games in February.

Meanwhile, academy graduates Kobbie Mainoo, 17, and Zidane Iqbal, 19, could be alternative options for Ten Hag if the club fail to sign a midfielder before the end of the January transfer window. Both players have been involved with the first team this season and have shown glimpses of their quality.
