Fans were livid with Rams backup John Wolford after his overthrow led to Cooper Kupp’s injury

The Los Angeles Rams went into Sunday’s Week 10 game with the Arizona Cardinals knowing that the quarterback situation was going to be a struggle with Matthew Stafford inactive. But at the same time, they would have liked to see backup quarterback John Wolford be competent with his decision making and pass placement.

It didn’t exactly work out that way for Sean McVay, and the Rams could be paying the price for that as the season continues.

In the second half, star wide receiver Cooper Kupp went down with a leg injury after he was undercut on a leaping attempt to catch Wolford’s woefully overthrown pass. Kupp had his ankle rolled over at the end of the jump and needed help on the sideline.

Again, there’s almost always going to be a drop-off when a backup quarterback has to take over an offense. But that’s a pass that Wolford really cannot afford to overthrow and put Kupp at risk. He has to know his limitations.

After the play, Kupp was visibly emotional on the bench.

Injuries happen in football. It’s part of the game. But it’s those preventable injuries to star players that are especially frustrating. You can’t blame fans for being upset with Wolford after that pass.

This was how Twitter reacted

Kupp did not return to the game.
