Fans were furious EA Sports didn’t drop rumored trailer for new NCAA Football game during national title matchup

Ahead of Monday night’s College Football Playoff national title game between Washington and Michigan, rumors — the source of which remains unclear — began to circulate that EA Sports would announce a major piece of news regarding the upcoming revival of the college football video game series, which has been dormant since its 2013 release.

Some expected an official release date would be announced or perhaps even a gameplay trailer, but halftime came and went, and by the second half, it became clear that we wouldn’t be so lucky.

It shouldn’t exactly be a surprise. Matt Brown of the Extra Points newsletter, who has reported extensively on the game’s development, has said throughout the week that while he thought some minor news might be revealed, he had no reason to believe it would be something as substantive as a gameplay trailer.

It seems this was the case of a rumor spun out of control, but that didn’t stop fans from voicing their disappointment on social media during the game.
