With the Eurovision Song Contest being held in the UK for the first time in 25 years, fans are predicted to spend £423 million this Saturday during the grand finale alone, a new report reveals.
The Eurovision Spending Report by VoucherCodes.co.uk, shows the predicted spend figure on Saturday will contribute to 90% of the total spend across the competition (£470 million).
With 13.5 million fans tuning in from home, supermarkets and other retailers can expect a boost of £220 million as fans stock up on last-minute food, drink and decorations for the highly anticipated grand finale.
The majority of Saturday’s spend will be on food and drink, accounting for £175 million of total retail sales. Brits will also shop for decorations for Eurovision viewing parties (£3.6 million) and souvenirs (£12.6 million) as they get ready to cheer on the UK’s act, Mae Muller, on Saturday evening.
Outside of the home, fans are expected to flock to pubs, bars and restaurants to soak up the atmosphere, with hospitality venues predicted to receive a boost of £129 million on Saturday. Brits are expected to spend £96 million on pints of beer, bottles of wine and bottles of fizz, accounting for 75% of the total hospitality spend.
