LSU is finding its groove after a rocky start to the season. All five starters are slowly starting to click and find their shots. However, that hasn’t stopped head coach Kim Mulkey from expecting better from her team, even if that means seemingly taking a shot at Caitlin Clark.
When LSU dropped its first game of the season to Colorado, a bit of fan panic set in. When Angel Reese missed four games without much explanation, fans started asking many questions. When Kateri Poole made a mysterious exit from the team, fans’ uneasy feelings were now hard to ignore.
However, the mood has shifted in the Bayou as transfer Hailey Van Lith finds her stride beside fellow transfer Aneesah Morrow and freshman Mikayla Williams. Naturally, as those players have improved, the team has been able to get more out of sophomore guard Flau’jae Johnson and Angel Reese.
Yet, as any coach would, Kim Mulkey wants the team to be better, including being efficient with their shots. However, she gave an answer to a question about continuity with the program that is turning heads. (See 7:50 mark of the video below.)
Kim Mulkey: “We don’t have any players shooting 40 times a game like you see around the country. That’s not us.”#LSU

In the middle of her answer, Mulkey can be heard saying, “Nobody’s taking 40 shots a game like you see across the country. We are not that kind of team.”
College basketball fans think her response was a swipe at Caitlin Clark.
LMFAOOOOOO Aye she saw this 💩 and is hollering witchcraft pic.twitter.com/HSBs3VvWCm https://t.co/KBNNNt0RMW

If this is towards Caitlin Clark, she hasn't shot 40 times in a game ever in her college career so I'm confused https://t.co/yEyyCBr7Ei

I’ve never seen a situation in sports where the winning team was so obsessed with a player from the team they beat. https://t.co/0dAywZjmZU pic.twitter.com/ZASprujnqq

Caitlin Clark got SEC coaches reacting lol https://t.co/YiXRXRK8dE

Neither does anyone else. The national leader in FG attempts averages 22 shots per game. https://t.co/bydNyOpZov pic.twitter.com/l45ZQveoIE

Something about Clark seems to really piss off insecure coaches like Mulkey and Staley so much that they keep taking cheap shots at a 21 year old who takes 22 shots per game and leads the nation in assists. https://t.co/aeWWdkh8bZ

Taking shots at the player who is 2nd in the nation in assists per game.
These coaches being so butthurt this year has been insane to me. https://t.co/1e1JtzjhQa

Caitlin Clark has a higher eFG% than every active player on LSU’s roster — against a schedule that ranks in the top 15, too. Talking like she’s a stat-padding chucker. https://t.co/IXGFriTpuW

Do you ever see Iowa women chirping other schools in the media? No… #rentfree https://t.co/BuAia8uq80

They can't stand to see @CaitlinClark22 and Iowa dominating in college sports! And if it had not been for referee blunders in the national title game on April 2, 2023, Iowa would've won the national championship! Not LSU! pic.twitter.com/sVnRcVmjJ0

Just a friendly reminder that Clark averages just north of 20 FGA/g, and this 30+ 40+ garbage is nonsense cherry-picking. They're all mad about the coverage Clark gets and hate that one superstar gets all the attention. The normies don't care about your "everybody eats" schtick.
