Fans tell Lewis Capaldi 'we'll be here waiting' following heartbreaking announcement

Lewis Capaldi fans have told him they 'will be here waiting' and and his health becomes before his music after he announced he was taking an indefinite break from touring.

The Glaswegian singer, 26, citied his Tourette's syndrome as one of the key reasons for the decision and said he wants to focus on "getting my mental and physical health in order".

His statement also included a heartwarming apology to all his fans who had planned on attending one of his shows before the end of the year. However, he said the break would help him feel well enough to perform at "the standard you all deserve".

In a lengthy post on social media, he wrote: “First of all, thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world.

“The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.

“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.

“I know I’m incredibly fortunate to be able to take some time out when others can’t and I’d like to thank my amazing family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who’ve been so supportive every step of the way through good times and even more so during the past year when I’ve needed it more than ever.

“I’m so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve.

“Playing for you every night is all I’ve ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life.

“I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can.”

Support from fans has come flooding in after the statement, with user @MindBodySoleUK replying: "Sending you all our love Lewis. Nothing to be sorry for and don’t feel like your letting anyone down because you are not. You sir are a legend and a national treasure.

"Rest up. Recover and we will all be right beside you. We are also here for you if you ever need a chat"

@Beech_Fit said: "The People's Champ. Just focus on getting better mate. All that matters." User @hellolovers93 said: "Sending you all the love and take all the time you need to get better".

Meanwhile, user @PhelpsieSarah said: "You take all the time you need. You are very loved." And user @SamWhyte said: "Means a lot to see someone bossing it even when they are visibly struggling. Take the greatest care."

@IGotPuppies tweeted: "The whole world is with you. Take care of yourself, and we’ll be here when you’re ready" and @KatrinaSmithSm1 added: "You are just pure class. Please look after yourself. Your fans will still be here." And fan wrote: "@sienamilan33

The only thing that matters is that you take the time needed to take care of yourself. In time, you'll be back doing what you love & what you do best. We'll be right here when the time comes."

It comes after Capaldi struggled with his Tourette's symptoms while on stage at Glastonbury on Saturday. In the middle of his set, Lewis said he was struggling with his Tourette's and his voiced had "packed it in" after coughing throughout the show.

However, Lewis insisted on finishing the set which spurned his fans to show their support by singing 'Someone You Love' for him in an emotional moment.
