Leeds United fans slam concussion protocols after Robin Koch head injury against Man United

Leeds United fans were left bewildered as to why Robin Koch was allowed to continue playing after a serious head injury in their clash with Manchester United.

The Whites defender suffered a clash of heads with Man United midfielder Scott McTominay but was allowed to continue to play for a further 20 or so minutes.

The German international had a bloody bandage on his head as he left the field of play, looking worse for wear.

According to Sky Sports, Leeds opted against making a concussion substitution and made a regular change, a decision that would have seen them allowed to make four substitutions in whole - three normal changes and one concussion change.

Leeds fans were shocked by the decision not to take Koch off the field of play straight after the incident.

Here's what they had to say on social media:

@Lee_A_Bridgeman said: "Why on earth has football not actually got a proper HIA protocol. Koch should have been properly assessed & never allowed to return if there was any doubt about him. What is it going to take to fix this? Someone dying on pitch?"

@AhumanAlien tweeted: "Football continues to be incredibly awful at putting player welfare first when it comes to head injuries. Koch should never have been allowed to play on. Bring in temporary injury subs whilst a player is assessed."

@IMechanisms tweeted: "Leeds’ Robin Koch now off - 20 min after head to head collision & forehead laceration - cleared medically to return. Looks a bit unsteady. Needs concussion assessment."
