Fans react to Panthers great Cam Newton being excluded from NFL’s tribute to Black QBs

Next Sunday will mark the first Super Bowl in NFL history that is headlined by two Black quarterbacks—Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts and Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes. And to highlight that momentous milestone, the league’s official social media accounts posted the following graphic on Friday night:

While touching, notably absent from the tribute is Cam Newton—one of the most influential quarterbacks in the history of the game. Heck, Hurts himself—in addition to the numerous comparisons from his sparkling 2022 campaign—credits Newton as one of his inspirations.

So, naturally, the cavalry came stampeding in and flooded the replies with disbelief. Here are just some of the boldest, funniest and spirited reactions to Newton’s exclusion.
