Fans react to Martin Compston in Traces - and they all say same thing

Martin Compston fans were delighted to see the Scots actor back on TV screens for the second season of Traces.

Compston, best known for his role as Detective Inspector Steve Arnott in BBC's Line of Duty, plays forensic investigator Daniel MacAfee in the gritty crime drama.

The second season of the show kicked off with a literal bang, giving many viewers at home a fright, as the series follows the investigators catch the culprit behind the bombing.

The Greenock -born actor is joined alongside Three Girl's star Molly Windsor, Breaking Bad's Laura Fraser and Jennifer Spence.

The second season of Traces will see Daniel, played by Martin, take to the witness stand for his dad's murder trial after he was arrested at the end of season one.

Fans couldn't wait for the show to air as they took to Twitter before Traces even started last night.

One wrote: "So excited to see Traces season 2 cos I really enjoyed season 1 but I’ve totally forgotten storyline @martin_compston think I’ll need to rewatch season 1 again."

Another tweeted: "It's time. "Do not disturb, @martin_compston is back on my TV screen #Traces"

A third penned: "Time for #Traces @martin_compston"

Another fan wrote: Currently rewatching s1 ep6 of #Traces as I couldn't remember what happened and need my memory filled in, been on 10mins and I remember it all and remember how much I loved it - roll on 9pm for series 2"

A fifth penned: "I am literally so excited for #Traces series 2 I can’t wait till 9pm it’s been way too long @alibi_channel @MollyWindsor97 @martin_compston @Jgs_x and everyone else who’s in it"

"I am all set to watch this tonite even recording it also be so good to see you on tv again Martin," wrote another.

And after the first episodes aired, fans went back on social media to sing the actors praises.

One fan took to Twitter: "#Traces Series 2 Ep 1. Fabulous continuation of the original story intermixed with a fascinating new story. Brilliant, engaging & thrilling start to the series. @martin_compston portrayal of Daniel’s inner turmoil is outstanding and heart breaking at the same time. SUPERB!"

Another wrote: "Well that was brilliant worth the wait can’t wait for next Tuesday to see #Traces again it’s been great to see @martin_compston I’ve missed him"

"What a fab start to #Traces, Geesh, Daniel’s pulling at the heart strings. Kudos @martin_compston - you’re knocking it out the ball park once again," another gushed.

Someone else tweeted: "Well that was rather good, a lot happening already and forensics fascinating. Looking forward to seeing how this season goes!@MollyWindsor97 @martin_compston @MrMikeNardone #Traces #Traces2"

Speaking about the new series last year, Compston told RadioTimes.com : "In series two the story has moved on a little bit.

"At the end of series one Daniel had turned in some evidence against his dad and his dad had been arrested.

"We’re now just before the trial of his dad for the murder of his girlfriend Emma’s mum. You find Daniel and Emma in quite a happy place, actually, they reconciled at the funeral at the end of series one and for a split second they’re kinda happy and then the wheels start to come off a bit…"

The series is based on an original idea from best-selling crime writer Val McDermid, although it is written by actor/writer Amelia Bullmore.

Traces aired Tuesday 15 February and continues every Tuesday night at 9pm on Alibi.

You can find Alibi on Sky on Channel 132, on Virgin on channel 126, and on TalkTalk channel 312. It’s not currently available via Freeview.
