Last week we got to thinking about the greatest wide receivers in Pittsburgh Steelers history and where Antonio Brown falls on that list. I have to admit I thought this one would be very close and I did not predict who would come out on top, much less in a blowout win.
Here’s how the voting went:
Hines Ward – 50.82 percent
Antonio Brown – 18.03 percent
Lynn Swann – 17.84 percent
John Stallworth – 12.52 percent
Other – .79 percent
The first big takeaway is we are glad to see the entire Louis Lipps fan club showed up to vote.
But the biggest surprise for us was that Hines Ward won in a blowout. Ward got more votes than Antonio Brown, Lynn Swann and John Stallworth combined. Statistically, no receiver did what Ward did in his career and his 1,000 career receptions put him in rare company.
If we are just talking about talent, it’s hard to discount Brown but based on this vote, fans aren’t ready to anoint him based on six big seasons when his career went so sideways later on.
