Fans of Netflix's You spot major error in Joe's work commute that's outraged Londoners

Stalker, murderer, and liar are three accusations that Joe Goldberg from Netflix's You could not shake, however, British fans found their disbelief suspended as he claimed to walk over nine hours for his daily commute in the latest season.

Since arriving on screens in late 2018, fans have been hooked by unhinged Joe who spends his time reading books and killing people, all in the name of 'love'.

Season four, part one has just dropped on Netflix and was an instant hit but the relocation to London had viewers pointing out a major error - Joe's work commute that has him walking for nine hours a day.

After his antics in America force him to up-sticks and move to the UK, Joe has managed to land a job at the prestigious Darcy College in London - with no DBS check pulling up his questionable background.

The professor, now going by Jonathan Moore, moves into a delightful flat in South Kensington to start his new life.

Unfortunately for Joe, played by Penn Badgley, murder just seems to follow him, but that's not what's caught fans' attention.

Early on in the season, Joe says he walks home from the college as "in a city like London, I don't mind the walk" - which would be fine if the college was actually in London.

Fans have spotted that the imaginary Darcy College was filmed at Royal Holloway University, which is actually in Egham, Surrey, not London, so Joe's walk home would take almost seven hours.

To add insult to injury, in the clip where he explains his walk, the murderer can be seen strolling through Shoreditch, which would add an extra three hours total in the wrong direction and make his total walk home nine hours and 38 minutes.

The walk would take him from the south west suburb, up to central London, through East London then back down to South London. Even more horrific to any Londoner watching, he's not even wearing headphones during this daily sightseeing hike.

Netflix poked fun at the geographical error, posting a screenshot of the route with the caption: "Joe Goldberg continues to amaze and surprise."

"Joe obviously knows the shortcuts," joked one comment, while another said: "A marathon would literally be shorter."

A third added: "Every Londoner watching, myself included, was like 'Joe, you sure about that bruh?'"

"Those 9 toes maybe doing something making him speed walk," offered another fan, referencing a self inflicted injury from the previous season.

While most accepted that the college was imaginary, so could suspend belief for his walk, they drew the line at him being able to afford a flat in South Kensington.

The area is notoriously unaffordable and while it suits the plot and it is hinted that a fellow professor helped Joe find the flat, the realities of rent in London have viewers reeling.

"That grated with me. Along with the idea that he could afford his flat on his salary," replied one viewer to Netflix's post. Another added: "It’s funny to watch how much Hollywood romanticise London, no lecturers can afford that kind of flat in that area of London."

Joe's cosy South Kensington flat would cost a minimum of £2,500 per month and has a "fireplace in every room" and an Aga in the kitchen, as well as a clear view into his neighbour's window - which is perhaps more believable in London real estate.
