Fans mourned the death of former Titans TE Frank Wycheck, genesis of the Music City Miracle

Several legends have pulled on the navy and light blues of the Tennessee Titans since the team relocated from Houston to Nashville. While that includes stars like Eddie George, Steve McNair and Derrick Henry, few have ever matched the production-to-fan-reaction tightrope tight end Frank Wycheck pulled off over nine years with the franchise — and seven in Tennessee.

The two-time Pro Bowler was a reliable blocker and receiver in an offense that ground opponents down to paste en route to the playoffs. He was a two-time Pro Bowler, but no play lives in the minds of Titans fans quite like the one that crushed the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round of the 1999 playoffs. With one long lateral, Wycheck sparked an unlikely comeback that pushed his team to its first Super Bowl.

Behold, the Music City Miracle:

Wycheck passed away Saturday, his family confirmed. He was 52 years old.

The announcement of his death led to an outpouring of support, condolences and memories from fans who’d watched him play each Sunday over the course of an 11-year career.
