Fans could one day listen in on parts of the conversations between referees and VAR officials to help explain how key decisions are made.
At present, supporters are unable to hear dialogue between the on-field referee and VAR officials, with instead only the final result being relayed to fans once a decision is made and the defining images shown on television.
Nothing concrete has been decided yet, but it is understood various leagues and stakeholders around the world are intrigued by the idea of being able to hear dialogue between the on-field referee and VAR official.
It has been suggested conversations could be recorded and then played at either half-time or full-time.
The International Football Association Board, football’s lawmakers, are constantly looking at ways to improve the use of VAR and how they could do so was discussed at their AGM in June and also the 11th meeting of the Football and Technical Advisory Panels last month.
A trial of hearing conversations between referees and VAR officials is not currently being organised, but it is something that could happen in the future.
