John Fury's likely April Fool's prank has convinced a number of fans that he is running for Mayor of Greater Manchester after a jibe at politicians on Instagram today.
The former boxer and dad to world heavyweight champion Tyson has taken to social media to "announce" that he will be running for Mayor of his him hometown. But many fans also understand that a post on April 1 must be taken with a pinch of salt.
Fury is currently in camp with his son ahead of his world heavyweight title defence against Dillian Whyte later this month, but took time to go on Instagram and declare his plan to run in the 2024 Mayoral elections for Greater Manchester. The current Mayor, Labour's Andy Burnham has been in the position since 2017.
In an Instagram video, Fury said: "Good morning to all out there, news. I am running in the next election for the Mayor of Manchester. Because these politicians are absolutely useless and I think I could do a better job.
"So keep listening and keep your eyes peeled, you'll see me very shortly up there in the elections in 2024. I'm sure I can do a better job than the so called politicians of today. Thank you for listening and have a nice day, bye-bye."
While most fans in the comments section noticed the date right away, a number of people really seem to believe that Fury will be running for office. "Yessss big John Fury wish I lived in that voting location good luck big man," one fan wrote, while another added "bloody brilliant".

Can't wait for this, he will do a great job, he is genuine and you can trust him. Simple. Oh and he is extremely knowledgeable. Keep trying to be your best, being honest and setting a good example."
However, the majority seemed to understand that it was almost certainly a prank for April Fools' Day, with one fan saying: "What’s the date today?" Another later added: "April what?" One more said that it was "April Fools obviously".
The Fury family are known for their sense of humour, so it is likely John will confirm that it is a prank later today. It is one of a number of boxing pranks being played, with Wasserman Boxing boss Kalle Sauerland tweeting that he was to promote a boxing match between Will Smith and Chris Rock next year at Madison Square Garden.
